Vacation Leave Letter

It is customary to send a vacation leave letter to an immediate superior when a prolonged leave of absence is sought for a vacation. The letter is typically addressed to your manager and is meant to inform as well as request him/her for leave of absence in the specified period. It is important to be diplomatic in a vacation leave letter and craft the letter very astutely in order to increase your chances of being granted leave. You can see how to write such a letter in the example given below.

A vacation leave letter should first notify the manager that you seek a leave of absence for a specified time period to go on a vacation. You can mention the vacation destination although it is not necessary to do so. Further, you may inform the manager that all due projects have been completed. If you have any paid leaves for the calendar year still remaining, you should make sure to mention that as well. The format and tone is formal and professional, an example of which is below.

{Date}

Dear {Name},

I notice that I am due for vacation leave within the next month of {number} days, which I have been accumulating over the past {time period}. If it is possible, I would like to use my vacation leave from {start date to end date}, and would appreciate it very much if you can schedule my time off for those dates. Please let me know if this works out for everyone, and if so, I will be sure to keep in touch in case you need anything while I am out of the office.

Thank you!
